the status of 2 for each row returned indicates that VLF is in use, (you get 1 row for each VLF in the log file) that's why you cannot shrink...

under windows 2016 CIFS shares have changed quite a bit, you now need to setup a new file server role and then provision a redundant fileshare from there.

Thanks for the notes. I've never seen the certificate protected by password in TDE, just the DMK. I assume doing so would ensure that the whenever the instance started...

I would say it's likely easier to deploy a new system in AWS and then migrate the database(s) to the new system, is this not an option for you?
