    Thanks for the reply...and sorry for the confusion.

    I need to propose a 2 server clustering / failover solution with SQL 2012 and it seems that the log shipping feature...

    if you're getting a timeout sounds like either a firewall or issue in the networking stack. Is the cluster validation report completely clean?

    its perfectly valid to have instances with different patch levels, this is one of the main reasons why you would ring fence a particular apps database to a separate instance

    you may have a windows server failover cluster that employs physical and virtual nodes

    does anybody know at what level it checks connectivity to the P & M?

    is it pinging / checking access to the database / checking at the app level? ...

    We are looking at implementing AlwaysOn AG combined with a Failover Clustered Instance of SQL Server.

    First question is why?

    You're taking the decision to implement an AlwaysOn group...

    then when connection is on secondary there are no locks.

    be aware that when you enable a read only secondary in an AlwaysOn group, all isolation levels are automatically...

    I have 10 databases which are configured as principal in mirroring I need to failover all the databases as part of failover , instead of writing query each database...
