In simple recovery a checkpoint truncates the log.
And even then there are drivers behind this, it won't necessarily truncate on every checkpoint

There is no backup of certificates or keys from Server A. And no one knows the password used to create those backups.

Backup all user databases first and export any logins, jobs, linked servers, certs, etc.
Clean OS and install new version of database engine, you'll be able to use the same...

ok, but do you really need to have 3 nodes in the remote site too?
Surely a failover to the remote site will only ever be for a short period of...

it's not mentioned the nodes are on separate physical sites so option 1 is very straight forward, its just extending the cluster and the AO group.
Option 2 however does have...

yes, you can use both but there are restrictions so don't do it lightly.
Keeping the instances standalone will provide you a flexible configuration with no shared storage requirements, very handy...
