    the only reason you might use mirroring in 2012 is because AGs require Enterprise edition of sql server.

    Same goes for log shipping too.

    cluster.exe retired with windows 2003, what OS does your cluster nodes use

    Excellent Article!

    In the example for an encrypted backup you refer to [MyNewCert], but the certificate is called [MyServerCert]. (Copy/paste issue I guess 😀 )

    We're about to upgrade two servers from SQL 2005 to SQL 2012 (not sure of the edition).

    This was expected as I had not restored the master key on the mirror server or created the certificate.

    We just switched over to 2014 with AG, from SQL 2008. So far, its wonderful, things are running along as usual, but.... (there is always a but)...
