  • RE: An interesting thing about isnull

I think my 'distinctly dodgy' comment warrants a little expansion

AFAIK, SQL Server has never set out to guarantee anything about a query behaving as if it occurred all-at-once at...

No. That would be possible if you use NOLOCK or READ_UNCOMMITTED, but not at the default level (READ_COMMITTED).

I know you know this! It has been blogged many...

  • RE: Declarative Data Integrity

    Tom.Thomson (3/31/2010)

Well, I like T-SQL and this one made my head hurt too: not the question, but the explanation! How can those constraints ever prevent any deletes?

    C'mon Tom...let it go!...

    Peter Trast (3/31/2010)

If you wait long enough, it should turn into a hand. I only saw it when I went back after being told about it. It took 5 to...

You are not alone in the Sharepoint feelings. The 'softies that developed the architecture and database schema/processes for that were horrible and clearly screwed the pooch in many...

  • RE: Full backup Scenario

  • RE: An interesting thing about isnull

    Hugo Kornelis (3/31/2010)

I would agree that, depending on transaction isolation level and @@TRANCOUNT, the results of the three statements might be different on a busy server. But for your code,...

    TheSQLGuru (3/31/2010)

In general tlogs should not be with data due to a) the importance of tlog throughput and b) different nature of data access between data and log files

  • RE: Deadlock between two read-only Stored Procedures

    PhilPacha (3/31/2010)

    Thanks, Paul!

Sounds like it might have helped...if so, that's great news.

I love foreign key relationships, they produce such interesting behaviours.

  • RE: Are the posted questions getting worse?

    Jack Corbett (3/31/2010)

Now calling me Jacqui or Jackie or Jacquelyn. Those may cause me to hunt you down.:-P

    Heh heh heh 😉

That is caused by a related and similar reason. This "simple" CASE is also defined in ANSI in terms of the "searched" CASE (and apparently implemented in this...

  • RE: Resize Transaction Log Default Size to Less Than It's Current Size

    HowardW (3/31/2010)

...but if the database was detached, which is an operation that can only occur after all users have been killed/disconnected and their transactions committed/rolledback, in what scenario can there...
