Think 180K is a high price? Most consultants I know with anything close to that experience charge 250$+ / hour... so that's almost 60% discount...

My best guess at the moment is checkdb finding an error in a stat. ...

Yes you can set a default for all users. The only downside is that you have to control the permissions manually from ASP rather than active directory.
