there are couple of dbs in simple recovery mode and there log files are huge..
Did you identify why they are huge? I mean what operations are running against this...

Many of the cases I have seen are with the default port either its not enabled or blocked by the firewall. one more counts to my experience.

Yes, Apply Service packs first and if you have any glitches concerning to a particular issue then I advise to look for that particular patch and apply it, but obviously...
