I took the wait and see attitude and i found the solution.

It turns out my rows where getting imported without using trim on them and the row was coming...

1. I have replaced the field in both database ensuring no special characters are inserted and they are exactly the same.

2. Both strings are uppercase.

Any other ideas?

Thanks Michael I turned off ValidateExternalMetaData but my entries with a decimal place are stilling coming into oracle as nothing.
