Interesting - earlier you showed that your scalar function ran significantly faster than your inline...I was just curious as to why that would be the case and thought maybe it...

No wonder mine is faster. SQL Server managed to parallelize my function. With MAXDOP 1 my function runs in 1600 ms and Jeffreys in 1100 ms.
I don't have SQL...

I think this fits in with service broker much more than using triggers. The service broker would monitor the table and generate a message for every insert - and call...

I get 450 milliseconds when using the algorithm as a scalar function. I get 1000 milliseconds when using the algorithm as an inline table-valued function.
Using the same 1 000...

What is the purpose of this secondary copy of the database? There are several options available - depending on what you intend to do with that copy.

You did good. Peter's takes over 4 seconds on a million rows. Yours takes about 380ms. Like I said, an order of magnitude
Curious - I am wondering where the...

This works perfectly. A little change in the output. If I pass TestDate as Today. It has to get me Thursday (follows with 2nd Tue - 12 Nov 2020)...

@Jeffrey Williams,
I tested your performance improvements for Peter's code and they're an order of magnitude faster. Nicely done. I've also not been able to find a fault in the...

It depends on what the "today" date is, no?
CASE 2 - If Today is 1 Dec 2020 - Then, The output should be (12 Nov 2020) -

Just a little warning - you should not use a string literal in the function as that will be implicitly converted and could cause cardinality issues. Instead -...

Steve - if you set the test date to 2020-12-09 you should get 2020-12-10 as the Thursday following the second Tuesday of the month. At least that is how I...

The things you mention don't typically cause the crazy increase you speak of. And I just told you a "good way" to find it so someone can fix...

Except that single outer apply will be executed for each row in the Meter table - and the data must be sorted each time based on the filters from the...

Just curious - but how are these solutions better than using multiple joins? If this is a performance related issue - fix the use of the upper functions on the...
