You can think of some of the Windowing Aggregates as a "per row GROUP BY". The object of the PARTITION BY is like the list of GROUP BY column(s).

p.s. I don't remember the exact number but there's also a Trace Flag that will stop recording successful backups in the SQL Server logs. If you do log file backups...
