You should look at option 1, but as was mentioned before, create a schema for the views....

Heh... if it's not in the "SQL Dictionary", I usually don't get it, either. I learned one just recently that very well describes some of the source of "flames"...

You keep mentioning that recursive CTEs are worse than cursors. I can see that in some cases, but in cases like a hierarchy...

I'm pretty sure you need at least DBO privs to do a SHOWPLAN.
