I haven't used it, but based on TST1's answer you might want to look into Idera's SQL Virtual Database.

Sounds like there is a custom DLL referenced in the reports that aren't working the need to be upgraded to use the 2012 SSRS DLL's.

I used environment variables to set the connection string to my SSIS configuration database in my different environments (dev/qa/uat/prod). This is the most common type of use.
