    Sometimes it takes a separate set of eyes to pick these things up.

    One thing I always do with dynamic SQL, is have a print command right before the exec command....

    Is there a column in RoutePosition that would satisfy the range of the query? Perhaps an index with a column like that would help.

    I have tested the remaining queries with both index. Both of them took the same time to complete the execution. only difference is 'FORWARD SCAN' and 'BACKWARD SCAN' method...

    Atleast they did not make the cardinal sin of no back ups. He is a developer. Still had sense to back up the DB while there are DBAs...

    Connect to the database using any standard method, and run the proc using the methods and properties appropriate to your programming language. Not sure what else you would do.
