The problem with the trigger is that it doesn't tell the database what to do if there ARE matches, it just tells it what to do if there are not.

If they're all SQL 2005 or 2008, CLR should be able to do that for you pretty efficiently.

Zero latency is impossible in the physical universe. I'm assuming you mean latency so small you can't measure it, which still wouldn't actually be zero.

What I've done for that was create a table in my DBA database and list the drives and their total space in that table.
I'm sure you can retrieve the data...
