  • RE: SQL Profiler kills performance

    Profiler will create a performance hit on the server. Saving the data to tables directly is the worst for that.

    The best bet on that kind of thing is running...

    In regards to temp vs variable tables, when I am building procedures that could use either I will develop using both methods and check the performance on both...

    Well the data compression was not turned on beforehand and I did run the estimates and it returned the same amount of compression, only 1 gb.

    What about issues of memory usage on temp tables or table variables.

    Is there a difference?

    i.e. does a temp table (#mytable) write to the disk in tempdb?

    vs. a table variable...

    You'll run into performance issues because of I/O way before you run into hard limits on the number of traces.

    Some data doesn't compress well.

    Numbers, for example, don't compress worth a darn. Text and binary compress the best, usually, but even they have limits.
