For that kind of volume, I'd go with Enterprise. Might need Datacenter if you need any of the specialized capabilities in there, but that's got more to do with...

I haven't tried XP 64-bit either. Not sure it would actually matter, but might be interesting for curiosity purposes.

Windows 7 isn't using Win32 as its core any more. That's the whole point.
Have you tried on a 64-bit Windows XP system?

4 Gig is the cut-off that 32-bit can address without help. AWE is necessary beyond that. Or go 64-bit and ignore the whole thing. The first DBA...
