VSTS just automates it, and gets all the objects.
Maybe a bit more important with hundreds of tables.
You didn't say why you were doing this, but the tool can also help...

Do you have Visual Studio?
My edition allows me to do a project which scripts out all the objects.
VSTS Database Edition.
Or maybe a trial of a similar tool can work. ...

Sounds like your Network Admin needs to get involved.
nslookup is one clue as to what might be setup.
Instead of just DC01, you might want to try the Fully Qualified Domain...

I agree with Jeff, although I will say that SQL 2008 seems to manage memory better, especially in SSAS.
W2008 R2 - this OS also offers some better memory management.
