Isn't the compile time for large procedures why they changed to statement level compile with 2005? In theory the whole procedure should not need to be recompiled...

Yeah, it's just logical processing. You can see that none of the salaries fall within the >500 < 1000 range, so how did the first two queries return data? Because...
