It's not a bug.
CheckDB requires a consistent view of the database in order to do the check. In SQL 2005/2008 in order to do so, it creates a hidden database...

They're created when SQL encounters an access violation. If you're not interested in debugging or sending to CSS for debugging, you can delete.

Stick a GO between the ALTER TABLE and the update. Otherwise, at parse-time, the column doesn't exist and throws an error.
