  • RE: best practices for Access to SQl conversion

Let's follow up a bit on the topic of placing the queries in the newly minted SQl server back end.
Our goal is to provide an access front end and...

  • RE: best practices for Access to SQl conversion

This small application has a ton of small update queries.  It is fed by a daily extract from another must more robust application.   We would have been better served if...

  • RE: 70-461 exam

I've studied extensively but clearly not sufficiently to pass.    I agree extensive practice in the obscure, seldom used features is necessary and memorizing exact syntax is necessary.     My memory is...

  • RE: 70-461 exam

I've passed several SQl exams.  But this exam with its emphasis on memorizing exact syntax for obscure SQL and XML seems misguided.   When I need this type of information I google...

  • RE: 70-461 exam

It does require memorizing exact syntax for obscure TSQL and XML.    I agree this is not relevant for most developers.
The other reason the tests are falling out of...

  • RE: tempdb curiosity

We have a 200 gig database set to simple mode.  In a few hours it created 50 gigs of transaction logs.  Impressive.

  • RE: tempdb curiosity

    Oops.  One more:
Does it make sense to change the initial file sizes for the tempdb database in the gui?    Since SQl does not change this,
    it appears likely a...

correct   The version we have is 2005 sp2.  When I tried to install that version, I received an error message saying sp3 was required.  And of course I could not...

  • RE: Deinstall express edition

I downloaded the sql express version closest to the one installed on the server.  Afterwards I ran the MSIINV utility to deinstall SQL server.  Of course this only removed components...

  • RE: Deinstall express edition

The installation files are missing.   the media files are still there.  No easy way to de-install?

  • RE: trying to upsize MSACCESS 2010 to sql server 2008

I decided to try upsizing using the Access application Database Tools option.    For my first attempt I used a SQL server 2012 server and created a new database.   It was...

  • RE: trying to upsize MSACCESS 2010 to sql server 2008

Upon future investigation I determined most of the Access tables I tried to upsize were missing Primary keys.  I will tell the developer to add them.

    However, a...

  • RE: trying to upsize MSACCESS 2010 to sql server 2008

I logged into another server with sql2014 installed.  Tried to use the 64 bit SQL Data import function.  The Access Database Engine option was present as a data source and...

  • RE: trying to upsize MSACCESS 2010 to sql server 2008

One issue is several of the tables in the access database do not have primary keys.   I did not design this monstrosity.
The sql server does not have access installed,...

  • RE: trying to upsize MSACCESS 2010 to sql server 2008

I've also tried importing the access data into a sql server 2014 server.   The import function did not recognize the accdb file.   I'm about ready to jump.
