Update to my earlier post...I found the offending key in the registry, made a backup of it (exported the entire key), then deleted the key in the registry.

This error seems to be cropping up all over the place. I too, have a SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 upgrade see this "fatal error" upon a successful upgrade....
