Which version are you on?
A couple of things to try;
Try restarting SQL Server, try disabling replication then re-enabling it sounds like a famous SQL nudge it till it realises...

A new twist......
2 servers running SQL7 SP3 and getting this error from a single table. I've manually check the ordinal numbers - they are identical and sequential... there should be...
