CREATE FUNCTION dbo.GetJulianDate(

)
RETURNS TABLE WITH SCHEMABINDING
AS RETURN
SELECT JDate = YEAR(@SomeDate)*1000 + DATEPART(dayofyear,@SomeDate);

This will give you the current date in the format YYYYDDDSELECT YEAR(GETDATE())*1000 + DATEPART(dayofyear,GETDATE());
