yeah reinitialising and rerunning the agent didnt work, my last resort is to do what you suggested, but it confirms that what im thinking of doing is what you have...

at my previous job, i used to enter about 5minutes each day as timesheet entering into my timesheet...i think its fair enough. and if it took longer i let them...

You can get a hotfix which fixes this issue
you dont need all of SP4 if you cant do it yet,
I have done this and has solved the problem without...

there was a DC issue last week at the site, possible that any authentication/traffic may not be correctly being sent to the SQL server???
im not sure how...

Ok...I too played around with permissions etc...
my specific issue had to do with the SQLagent not having modify rights to the folder as well...
my login account is just a user...
