Well how big are the data sets you're talking about here?  Are they small enough you can do the comparisons in flight in SSIS without needing to load a staging...

Why exactly are you worried that it's hitting the same table twice?  This seems like a fine use for a UNION.

Well can you just use a windowed function for the SUMS?  Then filter it down to the rows you want in the reports?
