AFTER triggers do not support text, ntext or image columns.
If you need to work with these datatypes, you could try with INSTEAD OF triggers.

You cannot use variables in DDL statements.
If you really need to use variables, you need to use dynamic SQL; form the string 'ALTER TABLE ... + @def + ...'...
