Good question. I think it is worth noting that this behavior is exhibited because nested transactions do not truly exist in SQL Server.

Do you have the SQL management tools for 2008 R2 installed or a different version?
Sometimes perfmon does not display those counters without the Mgmt tools for SQL Server installed.
