Keep in mind that should you ever need to use the dedicated admin connection, the browser service will need to be running and 1434 will need to be accessible.

If you have the 64 bit edition of SQL Server, I would expect some performance improvements based on amount of memory and the 64 bit address space.

Staying with SQL Server 2005?
