The driver downloaded should be fine.
I would start checking the connection strings and manipulating the string to see if there is something that the xp machines don't like.

Sounds like an invalid character was encountered at the source and then the derived column cannot handle it. Examine the source data.

It looks like the service account cannot connect to active directory. Maybe the account is gone, active directory is not accessible by this computer or the account is expired...
