    It depends. I have servers that fall into both categories. It will depend on application needs, usage patterns, resource requirements, etc.

    You can definitely add more files to the Primary Filegroup without a problem. The issue is moving the data from the existing file to the new file.

    They were looking at 185,000 for a dedup backup system, purchase a 16 TB iSCSI San for for 35,000 for storing backups before dumping to tape.
