You can try looking at the default trace file.
Otherwise, you should set up some sort of auditing to determine that information.

You could consolidate it. You would need to take your time with it and plan.
I don't see there being any real hindrance other than the additional licensing and hardware...

Were you also unable to see the drive during SQL 2008 setup?
Somewhat perplexing if you can write to the drive outside of SQL Server....

In sql 2005 those objects are still existent but they are views. The rest of the pertinent system objects that are the upgrade versions of those objects are also...

I would focus your time on the indexes and not so much the statistics. Tune your indexes and combine them where appropriate.

Normally SQLPROD points to ABCPR. If you have to go to DR, the alias is pointed to ABCDR1.
Just flush the DNS on...
