Write the sqlcmd command on notepad and paste it in cmd.... Try in this way

sqlcmd -S instancename -q "SELECT * FROM AdventureWorks2012.Person.Person"

You can try from SQLCMD.

Its not you / the admin that needs rights its the service account running SQL.

You can have all the rights you want/need, if SQL can't access the file you...

Yes, able to connect...

Only one instance is running and we have made separate directory for that file.

We tried by moving the mdf and ldf files to different drives.

But no luck.

I could not see any locks on those files.

Do we have any compatibility issues between SQL Server 2012 and crystel reports tool.

Issue resolved.

The user is windows login.

Some one has given db_deny permissions for Built in/administrator. After revoking these permissions issue resolved.

User has only db_owner and public roles on the database. No other roles selected.

We have tested by creating new user and provided the db_owner role. Still same problem.
