I guess it is most common to use the identity property on some numeric column as primary key. No problem with it. But as you can have only one clustered...

Did you run both procedures under same conditions. I mean did you use
DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS
DBCC FREEPROCCACHE.
It might be that the effect you're observing is due to caching
