Did you check that you have the source file in the installation folder of the SQL Server!?

1. In SSMS, click Tools->Customize;
2. Select Commands tab, click on Rearrange Commands...
3. Select View in Menu Bar list
4. If Object Explorer is not there, click the Add......

Be sure that you Object Explorer has active the button of Auto Hide! When you press F8 or going from View menu maybe the OE is appear but with AutoHide...
