Nope, because full-text searches complain when you attempt to search with a null.

OK, solved my own problem.
I had to go into database properties -> files and then enable full-text indexing.

Aha, I'm so used to automatically setting available values that I did that without thinking about it. And I just changed it and that was the problem.
