Ahh, I would say separate back up for each database.

This is a bit Odd, try this, try to back up from to your local disk, then try to copy the backup manually to the USB disk, if this takes...

there might be various factors which affects this, are you backing directly to the tape, can you post in your SQL, so every one can have a look.

30 GB is not a problem , its relatively normal, as posted earlier check the extension of the file. 🙂
