Working with Compression and Filegroups

  • Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding compression and different disk speeds...

I have a classic disk (15rpm) and a very fast SSD.

On each of the disk i have create a Filegroup.

What is now the best Choice for Data and indexes?

Actually i put the Data (Clustered Index) on the slow drive and all indizes on the SSD.

Furthermore I comress the Data on the slow disk but not the indizes.

What Do you mean? is this basically the best way??

    Thanks in greetings from Germany.....

    Ralf

  • No where near enough information. Determining optimal IO placement takes a lot of work, a lot of analysis of virtual file stats, index usage, drive latency, etc, etc.
