I was part of a cross business function team that had to put together a company glossary. Even though the glossary was signed off at the highest level and put together by people across the business we found that people tended to slide back to using the terms to mean what they had previously used them for. That is 6 different definitions of what a "Customer" was, God knows how many definitions of "Profit" etc.
An attempted solution was to include hover-over definitions for the business glossary terms. If the chart was to be printed then we'd have footnotes with those terms at the bottom of the page. The aim was to reinforce the correct business terminology.
The reality is that getting people to change permanently requires effort for which few have the energy.
