Windows 2000 fails to connect to SQL Database (2005)

  • Have been having problems accessing a database on Windows SQL Server using certain windows 2000 machines.

    All XP machines are fine

All are accessing the same files/databases on the same network

    Message reads:

    Connection Failed

    SQL State 01000

    SQL Server Error 233

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][named pipes]ConectionWrite (get overlapped result)

    Connection Failed

    SQLState 0851

    SQL Server Error 4

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes] Connection Failed

    Can you help please

  • Typically named pipes is disabled on SQL Server. I think W2K used that as the default, XP uses TCP/IP. Change the Win2K machines to TCP or allow named pipes on the server.

  • Thanks for the info Steve. I will give it a try although looking at the Network set up, it looks to be set to TCP/IP. Dont know how to change server mode to accept W2K pipes

    thanks

    John Mac
