Where did that backup come from ?

  • Hi guys

we are running windows 2000 server and sql 2000 server.   I have two instances running .  One of the instances has a maintenance plan to backup at 12:30 & 17:30 each day .  we then backup these backups to dat tape.  everything was going fine . Until we deleted some jobs in the backup folder in the enterprise manager.    we now fine a backup job at 18:30 starts on saturdays and when we come in on monday the sqlservr.exe is running at 50% .

The users on that instance have problems accessing the database and the enterprise manager is slow in showing the instance.   The other instance is ok.

If we restart the server all is fine 🙂

please how can we find this rogue backup

  • - first check out who or what is blocking and consuming.

    ( maybe http://www.sqlservercentral.com/scripts/contributions/111.asp can help)

    - Is it just a job or was it a maintenance plan you've deleted ?

  • Hi Alzdba

your mention of a deleted maint plan , set me thinking , one of the sys admin guys deleted a "few" jobs.   I have just checked the sql agent and in the jobs I have found two uncat jobs run sat & sun at 18:30   🙂   I have removed the enable tick.

These were the evil little guys  ,

thanks for pointiung in the right direction 🙂
