What is the best methodology for Moving Data Center to a New Location

  • The task is to move data center to a new geographic location with no or minimal data loss.

We have SQL server 2000 active/passive cluster at location A.

Data volume – under 2 TB.

It has to be moved to a new location – B.

We have the same configuration in-house – location H.

    Moving scenario:

1.For the time of move primary functions will be delegated from A to H.

2.After dismounting servers at A, transporting them to B, mounting at B,

Primary functions will be delegated from H to B.

    Thanks,

    Alkv

  • As soon as you delegate H to be the Primary, start taking transaction log back ups. Once you move the server to B, start restoring the transaction logs. Before the time of cut over to B, restore the last transaction log.

That should give you minimal downtime and No data loss.
