Virtual IP for non-clustered Named Instance

  • Don't quite understand why you need a virtual ip for setting up a DSN?

You can create server alias using client network utility to your named instance and create DSN to connect the alias.

  • Not DSN (ODBC connectivity), but DNS alias that can be assigned to a host name or IP address.

Can I get some more information about client network utility? Maybe this will help..

    Thanks

  • cliconfg.exe from c:\winnt\system32.

  • This works. thank you
