upgrading sql 2000 to 2005

  • What issues can I expect when upgrading a database from sql 2000 to sql 2005? The application vendor that is suggesting this says it will only run under compatibility 80 vs 90 will this decrease the functionality of 2005, and will their stored procedures still work in 2005??

  • Are you saying that the vendor is insisting that you maintain compatibility 80 so their software will work? All that means is that you are unable to take advantage of some of the newer features in SS2k5. However, if the vendor has no intentions of upgrading their software to be compatible with SS2k5, you will need to start the ball rolling to look for a new vendor.

Having said that, there's a difference between the vendor saying they won't upgrade, and the vendor saying they're not ready YET.

  • yes they are saying that to take it to 90 would require a re-write of their software and they are not planning on doing this anytime in the foreseeable future, they may however do a re-write for ss2k8.
