Upgrading from sql server express to sql server 2005

    I recently wanted to upgrade my sql server express install to sql 2005. But I kept getting warning and error messages saying that the server engine currently installed (sql express) was newer than the one I wanted to install (sql 2005).

    -Any one encountered this and how did you solve?

    -Is MS trying to force us to skip 2005 and go for 2008?

    It's possible that you have patched the express instance and it's newer than the RTM you're installing. Not sure how you get around this other than uninstall/reinstall

    I'd like to use sql server 2005, so I intend to now uninstall express and install sql 2005 + service patch.

    Is this the way to go?
