We just upgraded to 2005. Should we upgrade to 2008 within the next year or so or should we wait for 2011 to come out?

That's really up to you & your business. There are some improvements between 2005 and 2008 that could be a huge boon for you (we're going to start working with spatial data types around here) that could drive the upgrade, but you might not see anything that is so much of an improvement that upgrading will be a big push. For example, most of our servers are still running on SQL Server 2000 because we just never saw the need to upgrade to 2005. We're pushing them up to 2008 starting this year though. It just depends. Unless you're a Microsoft rep, there's no hard & fast answer here.
