Upgrade advisor Report

  • I am planning to upgrade sql 2008 to sql 2014. When I ran the upgrade advisor tool I got the below error--

Warning about client side usage of geometry, geography and hierarchyid.

I was just searching for that error in google and found the below link, it looks like we can discard the error and proceed further without any issues.

As this has to be fixed before upgrade, will my upgrade will go fine without any issues if doing in place upgrade. What issues will I may see if I do side by side upgrade.

  • That's a client testing issue. You're not going to see any problems from it during your upgrade in SQL Server, side-by-side or in-place. But you could see issues on the client software, depending on what they're accessing and how they're accessing it in those areas of your databases.
