uninstall and reinstall sql server

    I need to totally uninstall SQL server 2008 including Reporting service on a box and reinstall it with correct collation.

    I will use add/remove program to uninstall it, will that be a clean uninstall that will not affect my new install?

    Also I installed Service pack 1 for sql server 2008, uninstall will uninstall that too?

    And later I can do a new installation and apply service pack ?

    add\remove programs should cleanly uninstall all the components of SQL (make sure you select all the components) and the SP allowing you to reinstall.

    there will be some directories left behind (RS install directory and msql_50.mssqlserver\mssql for instance) you would want to delete for completeness.

    Where are those directories?

    We install default instance,

    I thought reporting service are in drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server

    Correct? Shall i just delete the folder program files(86) \microsoft SQL server

    and Program files\microsoft SQL server and it will take care of the clean up?

    You dont HAVE to delete these directories in order to be able to reinstall its just neater and you may have files under those directories you dont want anymore (e.g. log files, backups), or indeed files you do want so you should move out of the way

    Where they are depends on the location you specified on the initial install. If you took the default it will be under c:\program files\microsoft SQL server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER.

    Reporting services will be c:\program files\microsoft SQL server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER.

    I would delete at the *10_50* level personally.
