Is this a SQL Server 2008 bug? It parses fine. Note that the [] are unbalanced.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[abc](
[a] [int] NULL,
[transaction[0]].status] [nchar](10) NULL
)

What do you mean they are unbalanced? You are creating a table with column named transaction[0]].status
That is a truly dreadful name but syntactically it is fine.

The extra ] is how you escape it into an object name.
