Does anyone know what permissions are needed in Analysis Services to process dimensions and/or cubes? I have a cube/database that I have restored. The data is actually in an Oracle database and so I am using the Oracle Provider for OLE DB. After I edit the data source and test the connection, it tests successfully, however I receive this message upon closing the dialog:
“Unable to edit data source. Server initializing Data Source ‘[Data Source Name]’ ”.
I am able to update the dimensions to use the modified data source, however when I try to process the dimension it hangs during the initialization of the dimension.
Has anyone ever run into this problem? Any ideas where to look? Would the repository be stored in Oracle or Sql Server 2000?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found out I had a botched install of the Oracle Provider. I removed the provider using the Oracle installer and reinstalled it. It did not seem to work at first....but once I rebooted it worked fine (Even though the installer does not prompt for a reboot). Also make sure that if you are using a windows server that the user you are using is part of the OLAP group and has proper SQL Server rights.
