I am trying to connect to an SQL 2005 cube with Excel 2003 and I am getting a "Transport Layer Error". I'm selecting connect to OLAP cube in Excel, trying to use the OLEDB Analysis Server 9.0 Provider and entering in credentials. Upon trying to connect I get the error above.
Any ideas? Is anyone currently connecting to a 2005 cube with 2003 Excel?

I use the excel add-in to connect to my AS 2005 cube.
Maybe you are missing MSMXL V6

Thanks. I didn't realize a plug-in was required. I'll give that a shot. RH

The plug-in is not required to access AS 2005 from excel...
It's just another way to access your data.

Thanks for all the responses. after installing or re-installing all necessary components, I was still recieving the "Error in Transport Layer has occurred". It turns out that you can't pass a SQL user in the connection string - or at least a bug exists related to SQL users. When I switched my login credentials to use a domain\username (NT user), everything connected fine.
Thanks

AS works only with integrated security, so no, no SQL user accounts/names are allowed.
